Fragrance Guide FAQ
What does sillage mean?
Sillage describes how far a fragrance projects from your skin and how noticeable it is to people around you. A fragrance with strong sillage can be sensed from across a room, while one with soft sillage is only noticeable up close.
Should I test fragrance on my skin or on paper?
Paper strips are useful for a first impression, but fragrance develops differently on skin due to individual body chemistry, so the best test is always on skin, worn for a few hours before deciding.
Can fragrance expire?
Fragrance does not spoil the way food does, but it can gradually change character over several years, especially if stored poorly. A fragrance kept cool, dark, and sealed will stay enjoyable far longer than one left in heat or sunlight.
What is the difference between designer and niche fragrance?
Designer fragrances are produced by established fashion and lifestyle brands that are widely available. Niche fragrances typically come from smaller, specialized perfume houses, are produced in smaller batches, and often use more unusual or concentrated compositions. Neither is inherently better. The right choice comes down to personal taste and budget.
How many sprays should I use?
This depends on concentration and the notes involved, but two to four sprays on pulse points is a reasonable starting point for most Eau de Parfum or Parfum fragrances, with room to reapply later if needed.
